About Master Bob
Master Bob Schirmer has spent more than sixty years in the martial arts. Founder of the Combat-Do system. Trained, fought, and taught on five continents.
Chicago Roots
Bob grew up boxing as a young child on the South Side of Chicago. The fighter in him was there before the title. Before the schools, the championships, the Hall of Fame — there was a kid in a backyard ring learning the basics from a father who’d done the same.
Marine, Police, Coach
A former U.S. Marine recon ranger. A former undercover police officer. Bob’s career outside the dojo gave him a working understanding of conflict that no academy curriculum can teach. That knowledge feeds back into how he trains people today — whether they’re competing, defending themselves, or showing up to a class because life got harder than they expected.
Sixty Years. Five Continents.
Bob has trained and competed across five continents. He has fought Carlson Gracie Jr. He coaches at the highest levels of mixed martial arts in the United States, and he coached the Marjory Stoneman Douglas wrestling team in Parkland, Florida following the 2018 tragedy. His students have competed in the UFC, Titan Fighting Championship, Brave Combat Federation, and as IMMAF gold medalists. The NAGA Grappling Hall of Fame inducted him in 2005.
The Combat-Do System
Combat-Do is a complete fighting system grounded in science, physics, geometry, kinesiology, and nerve science. It produces world champions across MMA, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling, and kickboxing. It also produces something else — the confidence and self-respect of someone who has done hard things and knows they can do them again.
Schools
The current dojo is at 413 S. Main Street, Princeton, Illinois. The school in Cicero served the community for many years before closing.
